The purpose of the Bill of Rights is to protect certain fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals against governmental intrusion and abuses of power.
Three examples of the rights it protects are:
1) Freedom of speech, religion, assembly, and press under the First Amendment
2) Right to bear arms under the Second Amendment
3) Protection against unreasonable searches and seizures as per the Fourth Amendment.
