Read Separating Mechanical Mixtures p230-231 and take notes for each of the four headings - filtration, sifting, sorting, magnetism

Filtration:

- Filtration is the process of separating a mixture by using a filter.
- A filter can be made of different materials such as paper, mesh, or cloth.
- This method is used to separate solid particles from a liquid or gas.
- For example, when making coffee, the coffee grounds are separated from the liquid by using a filter.

Sifting:
- Sifting is the process of separating a mixture by using a sieve or screen.
- This method is used to separate larger particles from smaller ones.
- For example, when making flour, the flour is sifted to remove any lumps or large particles.

Sorting:
- Sorting is the process of separating a mixture by hand or machine based on certain characteristics.
- This method is used to separate different types of materials in a mixture.
- For example, when sorting different types of recyclables, they are separated by hand or machine based on their composition.

Magnetism:
- Magnetism is the process of separating a mixture by using magnets.
- This method is used to separate magnetic materials from non-magnetic materials.
- For example, separating iron filings from sand by using a magnet.
