What defines vascular plants?

Vascular plants are plants that have specialized tissues for the transport of water, minerals, and nutrients throughout the plant body. These specialized tissues are called xylem and phloem. Xylem transports water and minerals from the roots to the leaves, while phloem transports nutrients and sugars from the leaves to the rest of the plant. Vascular plants include ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms (flowering plants).
