Explain two places on the human body where bacteria are found.

Then explain what the bacteria are doing while they live on that section of the body.

1) Mouth: Bacteria are found in the mouth, particularly on the surface of the teeth, gums and tongue. Most of the bacteria found in the mouth are harmless and some even help in digestion by breaking down food. However, if these bacteria are not removed through proper oral hygiene, they can cause tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath.

2) Intestines: The intestines harbor a diverse microbial community consisting of trillions of bacteria, collectively referred to as the gut microbiota. These bacteria aid in the digestion and absorption of certain nutrients from food, support the immune system and protect against harmful pathogens. They also help in the synthesis of vitamins such as vitamin K and some B vitamins. However, certain bacterial species can cause illnesses such as diarrhea, food poisoning and inflammation of the intestinal lining if they overgrow or enter areas of the body where they don't belong.
