The discovery of the noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon) proved Mendeleev's periodic table to be correct and Newlands' to be wrong. Newlands' periodic table did not leave any space for the noble gases, while Mendeleev's periodic table predicted their existence and properties.
