Discipleship

What is the Condition for discipleship? What is the illustration of self-denial? Why is that a fitting illustration?

The condition for discipleship, as described by Jesus in Matthew 16:24, is taking up one's own cross and following Him. This means being willing to deny oneself, to put aside one's own desires and ambitions, and to prioritize serving and following Jesus above all else.

The illustration of self-denial that Jesus gives is that of someone losing their life in order to save it. This may seem paradoxical, but it speaks to the idea that true life, true fulfillment, and true joy are only found when we surrender ourselves to Jesus and His purposes.

This is a fitting illustration because it gets to the heart of what discipleship is all about: putting Jesus first and recognizing that our own desires and ambitions will only lead us astray. By submitting ourselves to Jesus and serving Him, we will find a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment than we could ever find by pursuing our own selfish desires.
