John James Audubon was famous for his contributions to ornithology (the study of birds) and for his artistic talent in illustrating and painting detailed and lifelike images of North American birds in their natural habitats. He is best known for his book "The Birds of America," which contained 435 life-size prints of birds, each one hand-colored and engraved. His work helped to raise public awareness about the beauty and diversity of North American birds and he is considered to be one of the most significant figures in American art and natural history.
