What are polyrhythms?

1. When you have multiple rhythms worth the same number of beats played at the same time.
2. When you have two or more rhythms with different numbers of beats played at the same time.

Number 2 is a more accurate definition of polyrhythms. Polyrhythms refer to the simultaneous use of two or more different rhythms or meters. This can create complex and intricate rhythmic patterns. For example, one musician may be playing a rhythm in 4/4 time while another musician plays a rhythm in 6/8 time, and together they create a more layered and complex rhythm. Polyrhythms are often used in African, Latin, and jazz music.
