The key emperor who ruled soon after Diocletian was Constantine I. He was the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity and he made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. He also moved the capital of the Roman Empire from Rome to Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul). He also divided the empire into two parts, the Western Roman Empire and the Eastern Roman Empire. He also issued the Edict of Milan, which granted religious tolerance to all religions in the Roman Empire.
