The Union went to extensive efforts to blockade Florida's ports and harbors during the American Civil War in order to prevent the Confederate States of America from receiving supplies and reinforcements from abroad. The blockade was also intended to disrupt the Confederate economy and to prevent the Confederacy from trading with other countries.
