Both the executive branch of the national government and the executive branch of the state government are responsible for carrying out and enforcing the laws of their respective governments. They both have the power to appoint officials, issue executive orders, and veto legislation. Additionally, both branches are headed by a chief executive, such as the President of the United States or the Governor of a state.
