The Nisei Regiment, also known as the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, was a segregated unit of Japanese American soldiers who fought in World War II. The Nisei Regiment was the most decorated unit in U.S. military history, earning more than 18,000 individual decorations, including 9,486 Purple Hearts. The Nisei Regiment fought in Italy, France, and Germany, and their bravery and heroism helped to turn the tide of the war in Europe. The Nisei Regiment also helped to break down the barriers of prejudice and discrimination against Japanese Americans, and their service helped to pave the way for the civil rights movement.
