“To Build a Fire,” Part 1

In Act 2, Part 1 of The Crucible, Reverend Hale arrives in Salem to investigate the accusations of witchcraft. He questions the accused and their families, and is met with resistance from the community. In “To Build a Fire,” Part 1, a man is travelling alone in the Yukon Territory in extreme cold weather. He is warned by an old-timer about the dangers of travelling alone in such conditions, but he disregards the warning and continues on his journey.
