Boyle's law states that the volume of a gas is inversely proportional to its pressure when temperature is held constant. This can be explained using the kinetic theory of gases. According to the kinetic theory, the molecules of a gas are in constant motion and collide with each other and the walls of the container. When the pressure of the gas increases, the molecules move faster and collide more frequently with the walls of the container. This reduces the volume of the gas as the molecules are unable to move as far before colliding with the walls. Conversely, when the pressure of the gas decreases, the molecules move slower and collide less frequently with the walls of the container. This increases the volume of the gas as the molecules are able to move further before colliding with the walls.
