Men and women among Plains Indians shared many roles and responsibilities. Men were responsible for hunting, protecting the tribe, and making decisions for the tribe. Women were responsible for gathering food, making clothing and shelter, and caring for the children. Both men and women were responsible for participating in religious ceremonies and rituals.
