Arguments Made by Thomas Paine in his pamphlet “Common Sense” which was published in January of 1776.

1. The colonies should declare independence from Britain.

2. The colonies should form a new government based on the principles of republicanism.
3. The colonies should not rely on Britain for protection and should instead form their own military.
4. The colonies should not be bound by the laws of the British monarchy.
5. The colonies should not be subject to taxation without representation.
6. The colonies should not be subject to the whims of a distant monarchy.
7. The colonies should be united in their pursuit of independence.
8. The colonies should be guided by the principles of natural law and natural rights.
9. The colonies should be guided by the principles of equality and justice.
10. The colonies should be guided by the principles of liberty and freedom.
