Did you know?
Genes, the units of heredity, come in two types: dominant and recessive. Dominant genes are responsible for traits that are expressed in individuals, even if only one copy is present in their genetic makeup. On the other hand, recessive genes are those that require two copies to be expressed. This means that if an individual carries one dominant and one recessive gene for a particular trait, they will exhibit the dominant trait. However, if both copies of the gene are recessive, the individual will display the recessive trait. Understanding the difference between dominant and recessive genes helps us grasp how certain traits are passed down through generations and how variations occur in populations.
