(1) The first wave of Asian immigrants to America began in the mid-1800s, when Chinese immigrants arrived in search of economic opportunities. They were drawn to the United States by the promise of gold in California and the need for labor in the West. Other Asian immigrants, such as Japanese, Filipinos, and Koreans, followed in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

(2) After immigrating to America, many Asians settled in the West Coast states, particularly California, Oregon, and Washington. Chinese immigrants also settled in the Midwest, particularly in Chicago and Detroit. Japanese immigrants settled in Hawaii and the West Coast, while Filipinos and Koreans settled in Hawaii and the West Coast.

(3) After immigrating to America, Asians faced a number of challenges. They were often subject to discrimination and prejudice, and were denied access to certain jobs and educational opportunities. They were also subject to restrictive immigration laws, such as the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, which prohibited Chinese immigrants from entering the United States.
