South America has a low population density due to its large land area and the fact that much of the land is not suitable for human habitation. The continent is home to vast stretches of tropical rainforest, mountains, and deserts, all of which are difficult to inhabit. Additionally, much of the land is still owned by indigenous peoples, who have not allowed large-scale settlement.
