Did you know?
Did you know that three out of the seven wonders of the ancient world were known to be destroyed by earthquakes? The Colossus of Rhodes, a massive statue of the Greek titan Helios, was toppled during an earthquake in 226 BCE. The Lighthouse of Alexandria, a magnificent structure standing at over 130 meters tall, suffered significant damage from earthquakes over its existence before its eventual collapse in the 14th century CE. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, a grand tomb built for King Mausolus, was also struck by earthquakes which led to its ruin. These natural disasters not only affected the marvels of ancient civilization but also remind us of the tremendous power and unpredictability of our planet.
