At a school sports festival, 1/3 of the participants were P5 and P6 students. 2/5 of the remaining participants were P3 and P4 students. The rest were P1 and P2 students in the ratio of 3:7 respectively. There were 208 fewer P1 students than the total number of P5 and P6 students. How many students were there at the school sports festival?
The proportion of P1 and P2 students
= 1 - 1/3 - (1 - 1/3) * 2/5
= 1 - 1/3 - 4/15
= 2/5
The proportion of P1 students = 2/5 * 3/(3 + 7) = 6/50
Suppose there were x students at the school sports festival.
The number of P5 and P6 students = 1/3x
1/3x - 6/50x = 208 => 16/75x = 208
x = 975
So there were 975 students at the school sports festival.
