Distinguishing transitive and intransitive verbs For each sentence write the action verb
transitive verbs take a direct object.
He ate the meal quickly.
intransitive verbs do not have an object
He ate quickly.
Some verbs are always transitive (set the table)
some are always intransitive (sit down and shut up)
some can be either, depending on the sentence (as with "ate" above)
