Of a total of 100 DVDs manufactured on two machines, 30 are defective. 50 of the total DVDs were manufactured on Machine 1, and 15 of these 50 are defective. Are the events “Machine 2” and “defective” independent?
Independent from what? If there were 30 defective, and 15 of 50 were defective from machine 1, that means the the remaining 15 defectives were from the other machine. I would suggest getting both machines fixed.
