The South fought to defend slavery. The North's focus was not to end slavery but to help it. The slavery apology debate misses these facts. IT IS GENERALLY accepted that the Civil War was the most critical event in American history. At the end of the war, south won, so Abraham gave the Getttizperd Adress. Probably the most famous speech, after " I Have A Dream ", at a theatre, "someone" shot Abe.
