Why are there never any answers to math questions on here?...

Anywho, I'd like some answers to this math quiz. Pretty please.

Kelly and Rachel collected 193 pounds of newspaper between them. Kelly collected 35 pounds more than Rachel. How many pounds of newspaper did each girl collect?

A.
Kelly: 79 pounds; Rachel: 114 pounds

B.
Kelly: 114 pounds; Rachel: 149 pounds

C.
Kelly: 114 pounds; Rachel: 79 pounds

D.
Kelly: 149 pounds; Rachel: 114 pounds

I know it's not A or B because kelly needs to have the majority of the paper. But, C and D can both be correct. ??? It's not a 2 answer question either. Error in writing or am I just stupid?

C. They had 193 pounds of paper, and 114+79 is 193.

Oh, oops. I was just being dumb lol. Does anyone have the answers for the rest of the quiz? It'd be much appreciated.

k + r = 193

k = r+35
so,
r+35 + r = 193
and so on.

thanks :)

we need the answers to the whole thing

You are not stupid! This question does seem to have a discrepancy, which can be confusing. Let's break down the problem to understand it better.

We are given that Kelly and Rachel collected a total of 193 pounds of newspaper. Kelly collected 35 pounds more than Rachel. Let's assume that Rachel collected x pounds of newspaper.

Since Kelly collected 35 pounds more than Rachel, her collection can be represented as (x + 35) pounds.

Now, if we add Kelly's and Rachel's collections together, we should get 193 pounds:

(x + 35) + x = 193

By simplifying the equation, we have:

2x + 35 = 193
2x = 158
x = 79

According to this calculation, Rachel collected 79 pounds of newspaper. And since Kelly collected 35 pounds more than Rachel, Kelly collected 79 + 35 = 114 pounds of newspaper.

So, the correct answer should be C: Kelly collected 114 pounds, and Rachel collected 79 pounds of newspaper.
