Hamza bought 8 gallons of brown paint to paint his kitchen and dining room. Unfortunately, when Hamza started

painting, he thought the paint was too dark for his house, so he wanted to make it lighter. The store manager would
not let Hamza return the paint but did inform him that if he used
1
4 of a gallon of white paint mixed with 2 gallons of
brown paint, he would get the shade of brown he desired. If Hamza decided to take this approach, how many
gallons of white paint would Hamza have to buy to lighten the 8 gallons

To lighten the 8 gallons of brown paint, Hamza needs to use a mixture of 1/4 gallon of white paint and 2 gallons of brown paint.

To find out how many gallons of white paint Hamza would need to buy, we can set up a proportion:

(1/4 gallon of white paint) / (2 gallons of brown paint) = (x gallons of white paint) / (8 gallons of brown paint)

Cross multiplying the proportion:

(1/4) * 8 = 2x

2 = 2x

Dividing both sides by 2:

x = 1

Therefore, Hamza would need to buy 1 gallon of white paint to lighten the 8 gallons of brown paint.

To determine the amount of white paint Hamza needs to buy to lighten the 8 gallons of brown paint, we need to calculate the ratio of brown paint to white paint that gives the desired shade.

According to the information given, mixing 1/4 of a gallon of white paint with 2 gallons of brown paint creates the desired shade. This ratio can be written as 1/4 white paint to 2 gallons of brown paint.

To find the amount of white paint required to lighten 8 gallons of brown paint, we can set up a proportion.

1/4 white paint : 2 gallons brown paint = X white paint : 8 gallons brown paint

Cross-multiplying, we get:

(1/4) * 8 gallons brown paint = 2 gallons white paint

Simplifying the expression:

2 gallons brown paint = 2 gallons white paint

Therefore, Hamza would need to buy 2 gallons of white paint to lighten the 8 gallons of brown paint.

Im pretty sure its like 1 gallon because when there is 1/4 of white for every 2 brown (omg thats really racist) and you have 8 brown that would be 4 times the 2 white need so u would like times 1/4 by 4 which would be 1/4 x 4/1

the would get a fraction of 4/4 which is 1 so for 8 gallons of brown you'll need 1 gallon of white, if that isn't right im just dumb smh

it's right, but very convoluted. Clearly the topic being taiught for this problem is proportions. So, set up a proportion

x/8 = (1/4) / 2
x/8 = 1/8
x = 1
