Is the anode in a voltaic cell and a battery both positive? Searching this question I get different answers. I'm confused!

Thanks

It is confusing. First however, a battery and a voltaic cell are the same.

By definition, the anode is where oxidation occurs. In a battery or voltaic cell the anode is negatively charged. In an electrolytic cell the anode is positively charged. Most students get confused because they have understood that the anode is + and the cathode is -. But the definition of anode and cathode in batteries is what I gave above and not whether the electrode is + or -.
