@Ms.Sue,

You are being a hypocrite, with all due respect. I saw you answer this same question for someone else and agreed that D was correct. So you are either being dishonest to the other person or this person. You can read a text and not understand it. Mind blowing concept. If you're going to call yourself a "tutor" instead of an answer checker that does not know what she is talking about, then you need to be willing to actually explain instead of post Google and Wikipedia links for kids to read, read, read. Some kid's don't get the text and need it explained. No one is forcing you to be a tutor, but if you are going to volunteer as one, then you need to be prepared to take the role of a helpful tutor, not that of a dismissive parent. The only person on this site with Admin privileges that I have seen who writes an explanation for topics is Damon and rarely, Writeacher. If you are going to tutor, then tutor. If you are going to be a school version of Google. Then at least call yourself a Schooge (School + Google + Schoogle or a School Google, like a wikipedia guide) and not a tutor.

Nice day.

To determine the correct answers, we need to analyze the given options:

A. They encouraged the opening of China to foreign trade.
This statement is incorrect. Both the communist and nationalist forces were primarily focused on internal conflicts and consolidating power within China. They were not actively encouraging the opening of China to foreign trade.

B. They caused political conflict and civil war.
This statement is correct. The communist forces, led by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and nationalist forces, led by the Kuomintang (KMT), were engaged in intense political conflicts and civil wars during the early 20th century, particularly in the 1920s and 1930s.

C. They worked together to overthrow China's last imperial dynasty.
This statement is partially correct. The nationalist and communist forces initially formed an alliance, known as the First United Front, to overthrow China's last imperial dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, in 1911. However, their collaboration was short-lived, and they quickly turned against each other.

D. They prevented the Japanese from occupying China.
This statement is correct. Despite their internal conflicts, the communist and nationalist forces temporarily united to resist the Japanese invasion and occupation of China during World War II.

E. They encouraged Chinese officials to launch democratic reforms.
This statement is incorrect. While the nationalist forces did advocate for certain democratic reforms, the communist forces primarily sought to establish a socialist and later communist regime in China.

F. They split China into a northern communist nation and a southern non-communist nation.
This statement is partially correct. After years of civil war, the communist forces emerged victorious in 1949 and established the People's Republic of China (PRC) in mainland China, while the nationalist forces retreated to Taiwan, where they formed the Republic of China (ROC). However, it is worth noting that the split between these two entities was not solely due to communist and nationalist forces, as other factors such as external support and changing circumstances played a role.

G. They gave rise to authoritarian forms of government.
This statement is correct. Following the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the communist forces under the leadership of Mao Zedong implemented an authoritarian regime characterized by strict control over political, economic, and social aspects of society.

Based on the analysis, the correct answers are B, D, and G.
