My teacher usually gives out a good bit of homework, but today she only gave us this problem.

A cookie recipe calls for 1 cup of white sugar, to 3 cups of brown sugar. Write the value of the ratio of the amount of white sugar to the amount of brown sugar. Next, write an equation that shows the relationship of the amount of white sugar, to the amount of brown sugar.

This seems kinda easy but how would I write an equation? I think that the value of white to brown sugar is 1:3 since ou can't simplify it anymore, but I dunno. Please help me!

1:3 is correct

w = 1/3 b

To write an equation that shows the relationship between the amount of white sugar and the amount of brown sugar, we first need to understand the ratio between them.

In the given problem, the ratio of white sugar to brown sugar is 1:3. This means that for every 1 cup of white sugar required, we need 3 cups of brown sugar.

To write an equation, we can let 'x' represent the amount of white sugar, and 'y' represent the amount of brown sugar. From the given ratio, we know that the white sugar to brown sugar ratio is 1:3, or x:y. Therefore, we can write the equation:

x/y = 1/3

This equation represents the relationship between the amount of white sugar and the amount of brown sugar.
