A cat cornered a mouse in a barn and was about to eat it. "Save me!" the mouse cried. "And someday I may save you!" The cat was haughty. "How can a tiny mouse ever save a cat?" she asked. "I may be tiny," the mouse answered, "but I have 34 brothers and sisters. Together, we will help you someday when you are in grave danger." The cat was amused. She decided to let the mouse go. One day, weeks later, a snarling, growling dog corned the cat in the same barn. "Help!" cried the cat. "I'm in grave danger!" Suddenly, 35 mice leaped out of a whole in the wall. They began nipping at the dog with all their might. The dog yelped as he raced away. "Thank you," the cat said to the mice. "You really did save me!"

The question asked me what I think the theme of the selection is and I said "There is power in collective action" because that is the one that made the most sense out of all the answer choices, and then the next question is a short answer question and it says "Restate the theme you selected in the previous question. Support that theme with two details from the selection." Please help me I do not understand this.

... then the next question is a short answer question and it says "Restate the theme you selected in the previous question. Support that theme with two details from the selection." Please help me I do not understand this.

1. Rephrase this theme (write it in your own words): "There is power in collective action."

2. Choose two details from the reading selection that prove your restated theme is correct. These can be quotations (be sure to use quotation marks!) or paraphrased.

Let us know what you write, and someone will be able to check your work.

Thank you so much you have been really helpful @Writeacher

To restate there is power in collective action I could write, when people or animals work together to achieve a common goal it is powerful.

The two details that I could use to support this is, "I may be tiny, but I have 34 brothers and sisters, together we will help you someday when you are in grave danger." and the other one could be, "Suddenly 35 mice leaped out from a hole in the wall and began nipping at the dog with all their might."

So put into a short answer I would write, "To restate the theme that I picked from the previous question I would say when people or animals work together to achieve a common goal it is powerful. My two details from the story to support my answer are, "I may be tiny, but I have 34 brothers and sisters, together we will help you someday when you are in grave danger." and the other one is, "Suddenly 35 mice leaped out from a hole in the wall and began nipping at the dog with all their might." The reason that I chose those two details from the story is because it shows how the mice worked together to achieve a common goal which would be to help the cat.

Does that sound okay?

When people or animals work together to achieve a common goal, it is powerful. One mouse said to the cat, "I may be tiny, but I have 34 brothers and sisters, together we will help you someday when you are in grave danger." Then suddenly "35 mice leaped out from a hole in the wall and began nipping at the dog with all their might."

Do you see what I did with your wording?

Now all you need is a concluding sentence!

Restating the theme you selected in the previous question means summarizing the theme you identified ("There is power in collective action") in your own words.

To support this theme, you would need to provide two details from the selection that illustrate or demonstrate the idea that there is power in collective action.

Here are two possible details you could use to support the theme:

1. The first detail is the statement made by the mouse that it and its 34 siblings will come to help the cat when in grave danger. This shows that the mice understand the power of working together and are willing to use that power to save the cat.

2. The second detail is when the 35 mice actually leap out of a hole in the wall to nip at the dog and drive it away. This action demonstrates how their collective effort and teamwork successfully saves the cat from the dog.

By using these two details, you are showing that the mice's collective action had a significant impact on the outcome, supporting the theme that there is power in collective action.
