If two sides of a triangle are 6 and 16, what is the range of the possible lengths of the third side?

If you do RSM then it gets a bit more confusing. You need to pay really close attention when it says "If we denote the third side as c, then " So basically it wants you to do exactly what oobleck did except use the letter c in the middle.

10 < c < 22

It is not 16

Not 16 its 10

16-6 < x < 16+6

rsm is really weird in terms of the way the people are and the system

the sum of any two sides must be greater than the third side.

let the third side be x
x+6 > 16 and x+16 > 6 and 6+16>x
x > 16 and x > -6 and x < 22 , well clearly x> 16 AND x > -6 ---> x > 16

so 16 < x < 22 , in words, the third side must be between 16 and 22
