Graph the equation -1/2x - 2/3y = 3/4

I'm not sure how to do this, can someone walk me through the steps in order to solve this.

it's a straight line

solving for y puts the equation in slope-intercept form ... y = m x + b
... makes it easier to graph

Hello!

First of all, I want to say that I can't give you a full answer as you may be asking questions off of a test for your online or public school. However, I'll walk you through the steps to solving:

Step 1: Add 2/3y to both sides
-1/2x + -2/3y + 2/3y = 3/4 + 2/3y
-1/2x = 2/3y + 3/4

Step 2: Divide both sides by -1/2
-1/2x / -1/2 = 2/3y + 3/4 / -1/2

X = -8y - 9 / 6

Step 3: Simplify.
-8y + -3/2

Step 4: Graph...

(The Graph should have an X intercept of -2.6667, and a Y intercept of -1.)

Thank you! I am completing a study guide, but I understand. Thanks again!

you did everything but sharpen the pencil to draw the graph
... this is not a full answer??

I did to the extent of what Jishka will allow me on its forums. I can not GIVE the answer, only the steps leading up to it.

Oh my .....

-1/2x - 2/3y = 3/4

multiply each term by -12
6x + 8y = -9
8y = -6x - 9
y = -(2/3)x - 9/8
so the slope is -2/3 and the y-intercept is -9/8 , sketch this

or

from 6x + 8y = -9
let x = 0, y = -9/8 , appr -1
let y = 0 , y = -9/6, or -1.5 , sketch this.

Veritas,

Reiny's numerical solution is correct

the total solution that you offered contains an error in Step 2

Scott,

I disagree with your answer. The graph should be a negative slope.
