9/1-7/11

with work thank you

i dont understand how i get the mixed number 8 4/11

What are you talking about???

9/1 - 7/11 = 99/11 - 7/11 = 92/11 = 8 4/11.

Thank you, Henry.

I agree with Henry but like to think of it as:

9 - 7/11
I see I need to borrow so I write 9 as
8 +11/11
so I have
8 + 11/11 - 7/11
so now it is easy
8 + 4/11
= 8 4/11

To arrive at the mixed number 8 4/11 from the expression 9/1 - 7/11, you will need to perform the following steps:

Step 1: Find a common denominator for the fractions involved. In this case, the least common denominator (LCD) is 11.

Step 2: Convert the whole numbers into fractions with the same denominator. For 9/1, multiplying both numerator and denominator by 11 gives us 99/11.

Step 3: Adjust the numerators of the fractions using the common denominator. Subtracting 7/11 from 99/11, we get (99 - 7)/11 = 92/11.

Step 4: Simplify the resulting fraction, if possible. In this case, 92/11 is already in its simplest form.

Step 5: Express the fraction as a mixed number. To do this, divide the numerator (92) by the denominator (11). The quotient is the whole number part, and the remainder becomes the fractional part. In this example, 92 divided by 11 equals 8 with a remainder of 4. Therefore, the mixed number is 8 4/11.

Please note that if the remainder is zero, the mixed number would simply be the whole number part.
