  5. 2.Figurative language is when you use a word outside of it's normal meaning. Concrete Mixers uses figurative language to describe the way the truck mixes concrete. They are compared to "big gray elephants" because to the similarity of the "tubes that look like trunks", going down and emptying the load and then going up when not in use. The drivers of the concrete mixers "perch on their back like mahouts". Mahouts are elephant riders, trainers and elephant zoo-keepers. "the drivers are washing the elephant mixers, like elephant tenders, they hose them down.

3.My reading selection is called "Weedflower by Cynthia Kadohata". The impact it had on me was that it made me feel sympathetic for the innocent Japanese Americans that were "thrown into ancient military bunks without any explanation". Yes, i would recommend this book to a friend because it is a great example of historical fiction. I think that it's great because Kadohata wrote about "an elegant humble...." character who "adapted to changes outside of her control". Evidence from the text is in "...".
