Firstly, the people living in communities are crippled by poverty. The are jobless and roam around looking where they can steal (often accompanied by crime. In order to increase the living standard and have a dignified way of life, I find it of utmost importance to involve myself in a community project.

Secondly, we are a country with leaders that show no interest for the well-being of the communities. Job opportunities, teen pregnancies, lack of basic water and sanitation are issues that is still prevalent. Being a leader in my community, I can help the less fortunate by leading by example. Our communities and country need leadership. People that won't just talk, but get down and do something to alleviate the social issues.

Thirdly, in order for more jobs to be created, the economy needs to flourish. This means, we cannot be dependent on the government for all our needs, but learn how to become self-sufficient. We have land, we can farm and sell our produce. We have time, we can study hard. It is evident that for 20 years post apartheid we are still living in poverty, action needs to be taken and we are the only ones that can do that.
