Was the US correct to think of the Soviet Union as expansionist and as a threat to American liberty?

  1. The Soviet Union was certainly expansionist after WWII. To the extent that American travelers couldn't move freely in Soviet territory, it was a threat to our liberty. However, although it could have nuked us, I doubt if it ever would have invaded us. We have too large an area and too many people for the Soviets to have ever controlled us. In addition, our long tradition of being rebels would have made ruling us nearly impossible.
