    = (1/2)(sum of parallel sides)(distance between them)

    (1/2(a + 12)(6) , where a is the other parallel side.

    (1/2(a + 12)(6) = 48
    3(a+12) = 48
    3a + 36 = 48
    3a = 12
    a = 4
