Given the numbers 10 and 40 their averages are obtained by different procedures 16, 20 and 25 respectively. Say which is the arithmetic mean and what is the geometric mean

  1. arithmetic mean = (10+40)/2

    geometric mean = sqrt (10*40) = 20
