Sam is going to cook a turkeys for 14 people and he wants to allow 3/4lb of Turkey for each person. 1lb=450g. Small 2kg-3.9kg.medium 4kg-5.4 kg.larg 5.5kg-7.2kg.extra large 7.3kg-9.2kg.but small/medium £5.99perkg. Large/extra large £4.99perkg.now how much will the Turkey for 14 people cost?
depends on which size turkey she gets, no?
Probably she wants to minimize the cost, so she ought to use as many large turkeys as possible, without buying a whole extra large turkey unnecessarily.
So, how many servings can she get from the largest of each size turkey?
each lb of turkey makes 4/3 servings.
small: 3900/450 * 4/3 = 11.55
medium: 5400/450 * 4/3 = 16.00
so, she can serve all 14 people with a single medium turkey.
This problem would have been more interesting had there been, say, 200 people, making it necessary to purchase turkeys of each size.
