Tickets to a local performance sold for $3.00 for adults and $1.50 for children. If 170 tickets were sold for a total of $480 dollars, how many adult and children tickets were sold?

  • Algebra 2 -

    a + c = 170
    3 a + 1.5 c = 480

    a = 170 - c

    3 (170 - c) + 1.5 c = 480

    510 - 3 c + 1.5 c = 480

    30 = 1.5 c

    c = 20
    then a = 150
