the blueprint for landscaping a yard has a scale of 1/2'' to 1 foot.If the blueprint is a rectangle 18 inches by 22 inches, what are the dimensions of the yard?
wouldn't it be 36feet x 44 feet? Now convert those to yards.
are you sure
why would it be 36feet x 44 feet? i am confused.
I get the same measurements as bobpursley. I don't think it's necessary to change feet to yards.
0.5/1 = 18/x
0.5x = 18
x = 18/0.5
x = 36 feet
Another way to approach this problem --
1/2" = 1 foot
1" = 2 feet
2" = 4 feet
etc.
The obvious solution would be to "go metric" and avoid confusion of a garden yard with a linear measurement yard, lol
Amen, Reiny!
i am confused
To determine the dimensions of the yard based on the given blueprint scale, we need to convert the measurements from the blueprint to their real-life proportions.
Given:
Blueprint scale: 1/2'' to 1 foot
Blueprint dimensions: 18 inches x 22 inches
Step 1: Convert the blueprint scale to a ratio
Since the scale is given as 1/2'' to 1 foot, we can express it as a ratio of inches to feet. The ratio would be 1/2.
Step 2: Determine the conversion factor
To convert the scale, we need to find the equivalent ratio. Since 1 foot is equal to 12 inches (12 inches make up a foot), the conversion factor is 12.
Step 3: Convert the dimensions from the blueprint to real-life measurements
To convert the dimensions, we need to multiply each measurement by the conversion factor.
Length:
18 inches x (1 foot / 1/2 inch) x 12 = 18 x (12 / 1/2) = 18 x 24 = 432 feet
Width:
22 inches x (1 foot / 1/2 inch) x 12 = 22 x (12 / 1/2) = 22 x 24 = 528 feet
Therefore, the dimensions of the yard based on the given blueprint are 432 feet in length and 528 feet in width.
