solve by elimination:
6a+2b = 48
6a+b = 57
What is the solution set ( , )?

add the equations.
3b=9
b=3
Now for a, by elimination
multipy the second equation by 2
12a2b=114
add now the first and this equation, giving
18a=162
b=9
