why do planets appear to move with respect to stars?

  • geology -

    they are so much closer that their angular velocity is much greater than the stars'.

    If a person ten feet away walks by and moves 5 feet across your field of vision, he appears to have moved much farther than a person 1 mile away who moves 100 yards.
