Writeacher, could you please check if everything is OK?

1) My classmates always keep me from work (from the lesson??).
I was on the phone with the bank when we were cut off.
2) I was so cross with my boss that I hung up on him.Peter had his house done up before selling it.
3) The class tests must be handed in to the teacher by the end of the week
4) Rosa Park refused to stand up (get up) and give up her seat to a white man.
My son has grown out of his shoes, so we’ll have to buy him some new ones.
5) We were asked to check out by 10 pm.
After checking in at the hotel (after I had checked in ..) I went to unpack my suitcase.
6) Her boss is going to ask her out to dinner.I gave away my old armchairs when I moved into a new house.
My grandma handed down to me a precious string of pearls.
7) Though Peter studied hard, he didn’t manage to keep up with his classmates.
It took a long time for me to grow into the job.
8) The accident held up the traffic for more than an hour (longer than an hour??)

    (If you say "from work" it implies that they're keeping you from going to your place of work, your job.)
