a man walked for some distance at 8km/h, and for an equal distance at 5km/h. the total time he took was 3 1/4 hours. find the distance he walked

  • math -

    time = distance/speed

    d/8 + d/5 = 3.25 = 13/4
    clear fractions by multiplying by 40:

    5d + 8d = 130
    13d = 130
    d = 10

    10km at 8km/h = 1.25 hrs
    10km at 5km/h = 2 hours
