who was the founder of roanoke island? that is the last question on my U.S history worksheet!!!!!

and i need the answer fast :\

Sir Ralph Lane.

Although he never went to North America, I think Sir Walter Raleigh should be considered the founder.

Sammie -- it looks like you need to read your book to find out if it considers Ralph Lane or Walter Raleigh the founder of Roanoke Colony.

ok cause my U.S history book says someone else but the school books can be wrong, and thank you so much to both of you :-)

Ms.Sue~~ i reed the book like 5 times and says 2 names.... and they weren't those names

Use the person in your book. If you read the Wiki article I linked, there were many men who could be considered the founder. Raleigh financed it. Other men came on two or more voyages to lead the colony.

oh ok, well i will put your men and the men in my book... cause i won't get points off for that cause i don't know so i will talk to my teacher about it :-)

and this question is weird to me: how were colony financed?

It's not weird. It cost money to sail across the ocean and establish a colony.

From the Wikipedia article:

"On March 25, 1584, Queen Elizabeth I granted Sir Walter Raleigh a charter for the colonization of the area of North America known as Virginia. This charter specified that Raleigh had seven years in which to establish a settlement in North America, or lose his right to colonization.[1]:9 Raleigh and Elizabeth intended that the venture should provide riches from the New World and a base from which to send privateers on raids against the treasure fleets of Spain."
