How did the teacher get this answer for this problem?

Okay so heres two questions... first 24/4(2) = 12
and i believe he said he didn't use the (2)

but... when i ask a question about a question like that they use the 2 like this

9*3 - 2(5) = 17

  • Math Pre Algerbra -

    a(b) means a times b.
    24/4 (2) means 6*2=12

    He did use the two...
