The sales tax rate in a state is 8%. If you pay a tax of $2.50 on an item purchased, what is the selling price?
Plaese identify the BASE in this problem.

The tax is = 8% (.08) of the price.
In equation form: 2.5 = 0.08P.
Solve for p: P = 2.5/.08 = 31.25
