How might have the maps indication of where Native Americans lived strengthened European claims of sovereignty?

    I assume you're studying a specific map. Doesn't it show that the Americas were sparsely settled?

    It would seem to Europeans, used to a densely populated continent, that the Americas were virtually unpopulated.
