Colleges are looking for students who have the drive, and wherewithall, to succeed in college. High School teachers generally have good clues in this area. At the colleges, they weigh after SAT/ACT, and class standings. Some colleges go further, and look at other recommendations from the community, but teachers letters count. Character is something you develop over time, and in High School it is revealed, and teachers see it, and can note it.
